BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday (December 29, 2025) accused the DMK government of failing to ensure women’s safety in the State, citing the alleged sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl in Karur district.

In a social media post, Mr. Nagenthran said reports of a youth, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, abducting and sexually assaulting the child in Kalugur near Kulithalai were “deeply distressing”.

He alleged crimes against women were increasing day by day in Tamil Nadu due to alcohol consumption under what he described as the State’s “TASMAC model” of governance. He criticised Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for failing to act despite assurances of working towards a liquor-free Tamil Nadu, and said claims of women’s empowerment contrasted with the lack of safety on the ground.

Mr. Nagenthran demanded strict punishment for the accused and held the DMK government responsible for its “failure to protect women”. He added the ruling party would face consequences in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
