Aanand L Rai’s romantic drama Tere Ishk Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, is turning out to be a hit at the box office but its collections aren’t increasing every day, as one would expect from a seemingly successful film. A day after it registered a 54% hike in its collection on Tuesday (day 5), the film has seen another dip on Wednesday (day 6), by 34%.
On Wednesday, Tere Ishk Mein earned Rs 6.8 crore, which was a decline from its Tuesday figure of Rs 10.25 crore at the domestic box office. That was an unexpected rise from its Monday (day 4) earnings of Rs 8.75 crore, which was in turn another drastic fall from its Sunday (day 3) collection of Rs 19 crore. Over its opening weekend, Tere Ishk Mein earned only in double digits every day, amassing Rs 17 crore on Saturday (day 2) and Rs 16 crore on its opening day on Friday. As per Sacnilk, the current box office collection of the film after six days in India stands at Rs 77.84 crore, across both the original Hindi version and the dubbed Tamil version.
Despite the presence of Tamil superstar Dhanush in the lead role, coupled with AR Rahman’s music, Tere Ishk Mein has only earned Rs 4.65 crore via its Tamil version. The majority chunk in the total domestic box office collection belongs to the Hindi version at Rs 72.35 crore. However, the film has earned far more than Dhanush’s last Tamil release, Idli Kadai, which was also directed by him and concluded its box office run at Rs 50.48 crore across the native Tamil and dubbed Telugu versions.
Tere Ishk Mein has also surpassed Aanand L Rai’s last directorial, Raksha Bandhan (2022), starring Akshay Kumar, which earned Rs 48.63 crore at the domestic box office. It’s also edged past Rai’s 2013 hit collaboration with Dhanush — Raanjhanaa, which concluded its box office run at Rs 60.22 crore. Their last collaboration, Atrangi Re, which also starred Kumar, dropped directly on JioHotstar in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic.
.
On Thursday, Tere Ishk Mein should most likely also surpass the lifetime domestic box office earnings of its leading lady Kriti Sanon’s last theatrical release, Rajesh A Krishnan’s 2023 heist comedy Crew, which earned Rs 81.70 crore. Dhanush’s film has another day to max out its potential as from Friday, it’ll face fresh and stiff competition from Aditya Dhar’s action thriller Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh.
