Oscar 2026 nominations announcement LIVE: The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards will be announced on Thursday, January 22 and Indian audience is on the edge of their seats as Homebound might find a place in the Oscar nominations this year. Dharma Productions’ Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, starring Vishal Jethwa and Ishaan Khatter, was India’s official submission to the Oscars this year. The film has already made it to the top 15 and it remains to be seen if the film will make it to top 5.
If Homebound succeeds, this will be the first film since Aamir Khan’s Lagaan that makes it to the Best International Feature Film category, which was previously known as Best Foreign Language Film. The nominations will be announced at 7:00 pm IST.

Homebound is competing against the likes of Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just An Accident (France), Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value (Norway), Kleber Mendonça Filho’s Belén (Argentina), Hasan Hadi’s The President’s Cake (Iraq), Mascha Schilinski’s Sound of Falling (Germany), Lee Sang-il’s Kokuho (Japan), Cherien Dabis’s All That’s Left of You (Jordan), Annemarie Jacir’s Palestine 36 (Palestine), Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice (South Korea), Oliver Laxe’s Sirat (Spain), Petra Volpe’s Late Shift (Switzerland), Tsou Shih-Ching’s Left-Handed Girl (Taiwan) and Kaouther Ben Hania’s The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia). Out of these, only five films will make it to the nominations list.
In Hollywood, the top favourites this year are Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which could both grab many nominations. Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme and Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet are also being seen as top favourites this year. F1, Frankenstein, Train Dreams, Bugonia, could also grab some major nominations.
In 2023, SS Rajamouli’s RRR won an Oscar for Best Original Song, “Naatu Naatu”. In the same year, The Elephant Whisperers also won an Oscar for Best Documentary Short.
